Recital FAQ
What time should I arrive for dress rehearsal?
Dress rehearsal begins at Rickman Auditorium at 5 pm on Monday, June 25. Please arrive at 4:50 pm with all costumes, shoes, and accessories, with hair and makeup styled the same as it will be the day of the show. Check in at the table in the lobby, then head back to the dressing room and get changed into your first costume.
Where is the dressing room?
The dressing room for female students ages 5-13 can be found by going backstage and up the staircase. The dressing room will be divided into sections by class. Please place your child's costumes and accessories in their class section.
Male students, we will show you your space when you arrive to dress rehearsal.
What is the best way to transport costumes and accessories to the recital?
A small plastic storage tote, or a laundry basket are a great way to keep costumes, accessories and shoes organized and contained backstage. There is very little space available to hang costumes backstage, so bringing costumes on hangers is not encouraged.
When will my child be finished at dress rehearsal?
At dress rehearsal our 2-3 year old students, 3-4 year old students and dad's dance will practice first, followed by the finale with all students. These students will then be allowed to leave. After this, we will run the show in order. The order of the show can be found on the Show Order page under the Recital Information tab of the website. All students will be finished by 8 pm, so the show order can help you estimate what time your child will be finished.
Can I stay and watch dress rehearsal?
Once you have dropped your child off in the dressing room, you are welcome to stay either in the lobby or in the auditorium. We ask that you remain quiet and do not take pictures or videos of the dancers while they are on stage. Please do not go back to the dressing room to help your child change costumes. The class moms will be there to help them, and we want to make sure the students know what it will be like backstage the day of the recital.
When should we arrive for the recital?
Students should arrive at Rickman Auditorium by 3:40 the day of the recital. This will ensure that we start promptly at 4 pm.
How should my child's hair be styled for the recital?
Hair styles for each costume are listed on the costume page of the website. If you have questions, ask your child's teacher. If you need help making a clean, tight, ballet bun there are many great tutorials available on YouTube!
Should my daughter wear underwear with her costumes?
Much like with a swimming suit, underwear does not need to be worn under girls' costumes.
Should my child wear makeup?
Since bright stage lights wash out faces, light stage makeup is preferred and encouraged. Pink blush, black mascara and red lipstick make a big difference in visibility of students' faces from the audience. If eyeshadow is worn, please keep colors neutral.
My child is in the creative movement or 3-4 year old class. When should I bring them backstage?
For most of the show, these students will sit with their families in the audience. Our Saturday 3-4 year old class should be brought backstage 10 minutes before the show begins. Our Tuesday 3-4 year old class, and creative movement class should be brought backstage in the last few minutes of intermission. Immediately after each of these dancers perform, they will be brought out to the lobby to be picked up by a parent to watch the rest of the show from the audience. All students (and dads participating in the dad's dance) should again be brought backstage at the end of "Nobody Knows" (third dance from the end of the show) to be lined up for the finale with the entire cast.
Do we have class the week of dress rehearsal?
The week of dress rehearsal we will not have regular classes, but each class will have a scheduled time on either Wednesday or Thursday for one final rehearsal at the studio. This is a chance for us to work through any issues that come up at dress rehearsal.

Anything else I need to know?
- Dress rehearsal is in full costume. Please bring all costumes, accessories, shoes, and have hair styled the same as it will be the day of the show.
- Be sure to label costumes and shoes with your child's name or initials. This will help us return anything that gets left behind or goes home with the wrong student.
- Please do not wear jewelry to dress rehearsal or the recital. Small earrings are fine, but no necklaces, bracelets (or hair ties on wrists!) should be worn.
- Once you drop your child off in the dressing room, please do not return to help them change costumes. There is plenty of backstage help at dress rehearsal and recital, and too many people backstage simply makes things chaotic.
- Our students have worked very hard to prepare for the recital! They are so excited to show you what they have been working toward all year, and we are already so proud of them!
